The growth and consistent performance of the Afghanistan team in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 is a must to watch.
Cricket in Afghanistan is nothing less than magic and a showcase of love. Afghanistan has been under war since 1978, including civil wars, al-Qaeda invasion and most recently, Taliban conquest and fall of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Not to mention, Afghanistan is a war-suffering country and is currently under the rule of 'The Taliban'. Cricket is the only sport that the Taliban allowed, but Women's cricket fled to Canada due to safety reasons.
Pakistan (PCB), in 1995, formed the Afghanistan Cricket Board. It became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001 and a member of the Cricket Confederation Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003. After nearly a decade of playing international cricket, on 22 June 2017, full ICC Membership (and therefore Test status) was granted to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan players have played a lot of national and domestic cricket in other countries. As a team, they received recognition after getting affiliated with ICC before this big event for the Afghanistan Cricket Federation (now ACB).
Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida is currently the home ground for the Afghanistan national cricket team after they decided to shift their home ground from Sharjah.
The hardships and commitment of the team are commendable as they are the only team as an associate of ICC to win matches against entire Teams in all formats.
Their performance has followed an exponential graph, and they have been able to keep experienced teams on guard against them, which has provided a tough challenge. source: Wikipedia
